This is an AI-powered guide robot, faithfully recreated in Hanji Lanturn form to represent the friendly face of Korea that many international travelers first encounter upon landing. Installed at Incheon International Airport, this robot is a symbol of Korea’s ambition to become a global tourism hub.
The guide robot not only takes photos and distributes information cards, but also connects directly to the central server of Incheon International Airport Corporation, providing real-time guidance on flight information, boarding gates, facilities, and store locations. It supports voice recognition in four languages: Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese—making it a smart and multilingual assistant for global visitors.
Developed by LG Electronics, five guide robots and five cleaning robots were initially deployed for a pilot program at the airport. LG commented,
“Deploying our robots at Incheon International Airport—the gateway to Korea—is an opportunity to showcase LG's robotics technology to over 57 million annual travelers.”
LG’s robotics division is actively developing technologies in two main fields:
-
Consumer robots such as smart home hubs and robotic vacuum cleaners
-
Commercial robots for public spaces like airports and banks to enhance customer convenience.
Since launching Korea’s first robotic vacuum cleaner in 2003, LG has steadily advanced in autonomous navigation and control technologies. The company also leads in voice recognition and natural language processing, and has developed its own deep learning platform called DeepThinQ, contributing to the growth of AI-based service robotics across industries.
